PhD Candidate – Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ, Brazil
Riane is a PhD Candidate from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ/COPPE/PPE). She graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture and Urban Planning as well as a Diploma in Environmental Management. In 2003, she joined the environmental planning group in UFRJ/COPPE/PPE where she completed her master studies focusing on practices in water efficiency in the commercial buildings. In 2006, she became part of the research team at the International Virtual Institute of Global Change (IVIG/COPPE/UFRJ) developing projects and academic expertise on ‘Vulnerability and Adaptation of Water Resources to Climate Change’. During the course of her PhD studies (2007-2011), she decided to combine the stormwater management and urban planning disciplines. She then came to Australia to conduct further research on Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) with the Department of Civil Engineering at Monash University (2009-2010).
Riane’s involvement with the Centre for Water Sensitive Cities includes her one year Research Project, which feeds into the DAnCE 4 Water Program – Dynamic Adaptation for eNabling City Evolution for water.
