Lata obtained her Ph.D. in 1998 from the University of Southern California. She is an experimental economist and her research encompasses both experiments in market design and experiments relating to social preferences. Her research in environmental economics has the potential for improving environmental quality locally as well as globally. She has worked in the area of emissions trading, global warming, water markets, water salinity and non-point source pollution. These projects have had an academic impact by encouraging further research that examines behaviour at the individual and group level and it also has implications for formulating policies. She is currently an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Economics.
Lata’s research areas include: Experimental Economics, Environmental Economics, Institutions and Development.
