Alice Niculescu completed her undergraduate double degree in Science and Civil Engineering at Monash University in 2008, which resulted in a particular enthusiasm in Climate Change research and Sustainable Water management. In pursuit of this interest she continued on at Monash University joining the water group as a postgraduate Masters student in the Civil Engineering Department. Alice’s project stems from research into the effects of urbanisation on local climate, particularly in relation to the degradation of stormwater quality and hydrology as well as elevated atmospheric temperatures and greenhouse gas levels. Her specific project involves investigating the effects of vegetated stormwater treatment systems, namely biofiltration units, on urban microclimate. This research will shed light onto the benefits of these systems on urban microclimate.
Alice’s Masters project (Impact of Biofiltration Systems on Water, Mass and Energy Balances in Urban Areas) is linked to the Vegetated Filtration Systems/Biofilters theme, within the WSUD Technologies Program.
